FER 819D
FER 819D is one of only 30 or so Scimitar SE4’s left on the road. This pretty car was fully restored some 20 years ago starting with a galvanized chassis which remains in excellent condition. The interior and exterior have always been kept very much as original and the overall condition is testament to the care and maintenance that the car has enjoyed. There are details of the most recent work carried out by Straight Six the SE4 specialists which totals over £2000 for a suspension rebuild and other maintenance. Although not needed FER comes with a full current MOT.
The SE4 GT was the very first Scimitar built by Reliant from 1964 to 1966. It sported a Ford Straight Six engine with triple SU’s, sports car handling and a well equipped and attractive interior. There were less than 300 cars ever produced and FER 819D is number 247 and is recorded on the RSSOC Register. The car has a good history with V5’s going back to 1980, old MOT’s, and a folder of bills and receipts. It was apparently a lady owner of many years who was responsible for the restoration of which there is an album before the car went abroad to Holland under the custodianship of a classic car magazine photographer and editor who had a thing for Reliant sport cars. The car returned to this country at Christmas 2009 with the then owner obviously influenced by the Classic Cars magazine coverage of the SE4.
FER 819D has an excellent body with paintwork that still presents well but has minor imperfections whilst the boot contains a spare wheel, tool roll, and jack. The car drives as well as it looks and easily outperforms its traditional rivals and the sound from the straight six is just glorious. It comes with a copy of the rare handbook, workshop manual, brochures and magazine articles.
